INSTRUCTIONS FOR GSC eKARAOKE

Setting up Zoom and adjusting settings for best karaoke quality:

  1. Install Zoom's desktop client (if you haven't already)
  2. Open Zoom
  3. Open Preferences > Audio
  4. Put your mic volume all the way up
  5. Click Advanced -> Disable "Suppress Persistent..." and "Suppress Intermittent..."

NOTE: PLEASE REMEMBER TO RE-ENABLE SUPPRESS PERSISTENT and INTERMITTENT before going back to your usual business on Zoom! These settings make it so that background noises are usually filtered out of your audio input to Zoom.

How to connect:

Join the Zoom call: https://ucsc.zoom.us/s/95973518318 with password K4T38U5H.

And join the Kast room: https://s.kast.live/g/8xaqpgmam9b

(you may have to make an account, but it is quick, free, and works in-browser)

Queing songs:

You can find songs to sing in three places:

In the Zoom chat, message the KJ with a song and your name! If it's not in our book or Karafun, and you found a link, send it!

Singing:

The idea is that the singer plays the music over speakers and both the music and their voice are picked up on their microphone and sent to everyone else. To do that:

FAQ:

Can I sing along while someone else is up?

Hell yea. Since your mic is muted, you can belt yr heart out. Make sure your mic is muted though: audio latency between the singer's computer and yours means the timing won't line up for anyone else, and it'll sound like you're a couple measures behind.

Can I sing a duet?

Unfortunately, because of the aforementioned audio latency issues, two people can't sing simultaneously in different places. If you're physically in the same place, though, bring it. And if you're really committed and want to do like a switch-off-verses kind of deal... you can probably make it work if you're both really coordinated with switching your Zoom mic and Kast audio on and off. We also give you free rein to sing all the voices yourself.

Can I sing while wearing headphones?

Generally, this will mean that only you can hear the music, and everyone else will just hear your voice, not great. HOWEVER, if you want to improve the audio quality of your performance, or want to avoid blasting music in your apartment, there IS a way you can set up your computer audio to do this. Read through our guide to that process here.

I need to be exceptional. How can I make my performance audio sound better?

For those with a hunger for a finer sound, there's a better way to do this that involves the singer downloading a few pieces of free software (Soundflower and LadioCast) and making a few small changes to their computer's audio settings. Follow the steps in our guide here.

Can I hire you for a private thing?

You bet, email us at sup@karaoke.bingo.
